Memphis, Tennessee
When traveling, it is always a good idea to eat like the locals. Uncle Lou’s in Memphis is a local place that has become one of my all-time favorites. I actively seek out Uncle Lou’s whenever I am in Memphis.

Uncle Lou’s doesn’t look like much from the outside. The restaurant is in a small strip mall near the airport. The restaurant is far from the touristy part of Memphis, but the journey outside of downtown is well worth the visit. On the inside, the food is one of the finest examples of Southern-style soul food available anywhere. Uncle Lou’s is famous for its Sweet Spicy Love sauce, Corruption spice, fried chicken, and sides. My mouth starts salivating when I start thinking about the food. I’ve been fortunate to have multiple meals from Uncle Lou’s, and they never disappoint.
Memphis is a city of many culinary delights, but Uncle Lou’s is my sentimental favorite go-to when I am in the area. It’s great that Guy Fieri saved this place thanks to featuring Uncle Lou’s on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Lou shares the story on his main website; everything from how he uses his great-grandmother’s fried chicken recipe, to how he struggled in the restaurant business, to his success today. Stop in, and your taste buds will be eternally grateful, although you might also discover a new favorite spot.
