Sometimes, when traveling, it is worthwhile to take some time to rest and take in the views. Milwaukee provides a great place to do just that with the Lakefront Brewery. The name may be a misnomer; the brewery started in the Riverwest Community in a former bakery and is currently located in a former coal-powered electric plant on the Milwaukee River. However, the name honors the founder’s hometown.
I missed the tour on the weekday afternoon that I visited, but it is highly recommended online. You get a free glass, four eight-ounce pours, and a free coupon to use in an area tavern. With everything that you receive, it is a great deal for a brewery tour. At the brewery, they also have a beer hall that serves food. My youngest son loved the Mac & Cheese. The beer hall also holds many events.
Instead of going on a tour, I bought a lager and took a riverside seat. The seat outside was a great place to watch kayakers paddle the river, pontoons glide by and occasionally pull up to the dock, and birds catch fish in the river.
Overall, Lakeview Brewery is a great place that encourages locals and travelers to sit down and enjoy life. The brewery was a pleasant excursion before we went to a baseball game later that evening.
