Leave it to a fruit stand on the way to the Everglades to combine two of my favorite desserts, key lime pie, and milkshakes, to provide a memorable travel stop.
Robert is Here started when Robert Moehling was six years old, sitting on the side of the road, selling produce. Robert has grown the fruit stand from a crude sign his dad wrote to the giant agribusiness found on the way to Everglades National Park today. Today’s business features typical produce like coconuts, bananas, watermelons, and tomatoes but also less common fruits such as jackfruit, dragon fruit, and canistel. Robert is Here also sells canned and dried goods, has a kitchen that makes milkshakes and other items (the Cuban sandwich is pretty good), has various animals out back, and has a place to host live music and other events.
The fruit stand can be slightly overpriced; milkshakes were $10 when I last visited in December 2022. However, the Key Lime milkshake is as sweet and tangy as advertised. Like many other agritourism attractions, Robert is Here can be a little touristy, but agritourism operations have to cater to the general public, not just people with an agricultural background. Do not let the touristy parts of Robert is Here fool you; this is an actual roadside produce stand with some of the best variety I have ever visited. The pleasant roadside stand smell is present, giving you the sense of a direct connection with your food that is hard to replicate in a modern grocery store. Robert is Here does not disappoint as a quick stop to or from the Everglades.
