Ashland, Wisconsin
When most people think of Culver’s, they probably think of butter burgers and custard, not outdoor seating with gorgeous sunsets overlooking a bay. At the Culver’s in Ashland, Wisconsin, sunsets like these are a daily occurrence when the skies are clear.
Taking advantage of its location on a former paper mill site, the Ashland Culver’s built a picnic area overlooking Chequamegon Bay in Lake Superior. The lake view provides a memorable place to enjoy a sandwich or a concrete.

In addition to the views of the bay, the restaurant has access to the Tri-County Corridor, a 62-mile repurposed rail line trail from Ashland to Superior, Wisconsin. Bicycles, horses, and all-terrain vehicles share the trail with hikers from spring through fall, and snowmobiles use it in winter.

If you go, wear bug spray as the mosquitoes were quite heavy in the early evening during the northern Wisconsin summer. There is also a limit on the number of tables, but with sunset at 8:30 in late summer, you will likely find a spot to enjoy an excellent sunset. Typically, fast-food locations are not travel destinations, but if you are in Ashland, a burger, a malt, and a gorgeous sunset can provide a memorable meal and travel memory.
